Egypt militants attack hotel in Taba

A hotel in the Sinai peninsula was attacked by militants with the intent to rob a jewellery store inside the hotel complex, a security source said Tuesday.
The Wekala hotel inside the Taba Heights complex near the Israeli border was attacked by four armed men when they tried to storm the hotel with a car with no license plate.
The security source said that most guests were Israelis and they returned home shortly after the attack.
The source added that the militants fled the complex after the security forces guarding the hotel exchanged fire with them, forcing them to flee.
No injuries were reported.
Security in the popular travel destination in the Sinai has been amped up following the uprising that toppled the former regime in Egypt last year.
The Egyptian army, which was not allowed on the Red Sea coast armed, according to the 1979 peace treaty with the Jewish state, took up arms to protect the flocks of tourists who favor the destination for its stunning scenery and cheap prices.
