3 Africans shot by Egyptian police en route to Israel
Ma'an News Agency
Ma'an) -- Egyptian police shot and injured three African migrants who were en route to Israel, according to Egyptian security sources in the Sinai peninsula.
The officials told Ma'an that security forces saw three men trying to enter Israel and warned them to stop. When they refused, Egyptian forces opened fire toward them, they said.
Two Eritreans were among the three treated at Nakhl hospital in the Sinai. They are expected to be transferred to el-Arish general hospital.
Four Eritreans and three Ethiopians were also caught near the border. They told interrogators of paying large amounts of money to trafficking groups in the Sinai. They were looking for work in Israel.
Meanwhile Israeli forces said they came under fire on the Egypt-Israel border and fired back toward the assailants, Israeli media reported. Israel's Ynet news site said no injuries of soldiers were reported.
It said an Israeli force on patrol near the Mt Carmit outpost noticed a group of "infiltrators" who crossed the border from the Sinai, heard shots from the Egyptian side, and fired back.
It was not clear if the gunfire was the same which injured the three migrants.
