During her recent trip to Egypt Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, visited young entrepreneurs working with Flat6Labs, a company which provides start-up capital and mentorship to take fledgling businesses from the idea phase to operational self-sufficiency.
Mrs. Clinton had praise for the companies that showed off their models to the secretary.
She met with a series of new companies: A * Apps which does beta testing of cell phone apps, bringing together testers and developers; Fekra2 which brings together business, non-profit, and government workers to address R&D challenges; GamesBond, an educational company that uses Windows Kinect; Hub 43 which creates real time, interactive social games; Intergreight, designers of electronic testing devices to improve circuits; and Tadaweya, which is creating an online store for local handicrafts.
Flat6Labs is a subsidiary of Sawari Ventures. The CEO of Sawari Ventures, Hany Al Sonbaty, spoke during the Clinton meeting of the great potential for entrepreneurship in the region.
He said the business incubator will help harness the grassroots energy being shown by youth throughout the Middle East.
Sawari’s goal is to create around five more facilities like Flat6Labs.
The Sawari website says that Flat6Labs is now the first African addition to the Global Accelerator Network.
They have helped 12 companies that are now operating as businesses, just the beginning of the success upon which Sawari wishes to serve entrepreneurs who can change both Egypt and the Middle East & North Africa Region.
