Fewer Egyptians moved abroad in 2011, says report
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics noted a 13.1 percent decline in the number of Egyptians who officially emigrated in 2011, bringing the official number of Egyptians who obtained new work or residency visas to live abroad in 2011 down to 536 as compared to 617 in 2010.
The report said that Canada approved the highest number of residency visa applications to Egyptians. In 2011, Canada allowed 213 Egyptian immigrants into the country.
Meanwhile, the number of Egyptians who obtained foreign citizenship in 2011 decreased to 1,574 as compared to 1,717 in 2010, an 8.3 percent decline.
The report also pointed out that 25.9 percent of Egyptian immigrants were university graduates.
