GB Auto to introduce Westlake tires to Egypt
Cairo - GB Auto (AUTO), a leading automotive assembler and distributor in the Middle East and North Africa, has secured the exclusive right to distribute internationally-recognized Westlake passenger car, van, truck and bus radial (TBR), and off-the-road (OTR) tires in the Egyptian market.
“We are very pleased to announce that we have added another robust tire brand to our product lineup.
These tires are a triple-win for the Egyptian consumer: safe, durable and affordable,” said Dr.
Raouf Ghabbour, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GB Auto. “We are particularly pleased that Westlake is our second new Chinese representation this year, after introducing Geely in the first quarter. The Westlake brand is a natural fit with our strategy of catering to Egypt’s large, fastgrowing, multi-tiered consumer market by offering a rounded portfolio of competitive products, each of which offers the best value-for-money at its respective price point.”
The new offering joins Turkish brand Lassa and Japan’s Yokohama in GB Auto’s tires portfolio.
Founded in 1958, ZC Rubber is China’s largest tire manufacturer, according to figures published by the China Rubber Industry Association. The company stands today as the eleventh-largest player in the global tire market.
GB Auto’s announcement comes in the wake of news that Egypt’s anti-dumping duties on tires of Chinese origin have been lifted. GB Auto has been carefully studying the Chinese market to find the most suitable brand to introduce in anticipation that the duties would eventually be scrapped.
“The removal of anti-dumping duties on Chinese tires has effectively re-opened the Egyptian market to these affordable products, which we expect will find a wide market,” said Kamal Fahmy, Director of the Tires line of business at GB Auto.
Sales of Westlake tires will begin immediately in Egypt as GB Auto has already stocked the required inventory.
Sales will begin through GB Auto’s independent network of tire dealers and through the company’s dedicated spare parts and service centers, the largest of which recently opened on the Cairo-Ismaliyya Highway.
With nine factories, and a tenth under construction, ZC Rubber’s 2012 production capacity is expected to reach 30 million passenger car radial tires, 12 million truck and bus radial tires, and 200,000 OTR and agricultural tires.

The convenient marriage between Iran and the Arab left would have been unthinkable only a few years ago, given the traditional ideological paradoxes between patriarchal Persian Shiism, on the one hand, and leftist orthodoxy on the other.Indeed, a casual viewer of Hizbullah's Al-Manar television, or the Iranian-funded Al-Mayadin TV, these days would probably think that the two Shia propaganda
