Egypt forces reportedly fire on Gaza fishermen

Egyptian naval forces have reportedly opened fire on Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian spokesman said Monday.

"Egyptian naval forces opened fire on three fishing boats off the coast of the southern Rafah city," Nizar Ayyash, head of the Gaza fishermen's union, told.

No casualties were reported.

An Egyptian military source said the fishing boats had violated Egypt's territorial waters.

"Warning shots were fired at the boats, which immediately left Egypt's territorial waters," the source said.

Egypt has tightened security along its border with the blockaded Gaza Strip since the ouster by the military of elected President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013.
