Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met the US special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, John Allen, Sunday to discuss the coalition’s efforts.

Allen arrived to Cairo after participating in the East Asia Summit symposium on countering violent extremism in Singapore. His visit to Egypt will also include a meeting with the Arab League's Secretary General, Nabil El-Araby.

Egypt is part of the US-led coalition that aims to “degrade and ultimately destroy [ISIS]”. The US, the UK, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are carrying out airstrikes on the group in Iraq. The US is also carrying out strikes against ISIS targets in Syria, supported by Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
