The world climate conferences are a series of international meetings, organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), about global climate issues. The first two conferences largely focused on climate change in addition to climate research and forecasting.

Past World Climate Conferences
The First World Climate Conference was held on 12-23 February 1979 in Geneva and sponsored by the WMO. It was one of the first major international meetings on climate change. Essentially a scientific conference, it was attended by scientists from a wide range of disciplines.

Information exchange the goal as World Climate Conference starts
Enabling improved information exchange for the fight against climate change is the goal of a five-day UN climate conference that opened in Geneva on Monday. "Even if we reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, the climate will continue to change," said Gro Harlem Brundtland, the United Nations Secretary General's special envoy on climate change. "All countries will need to adapt to a changing and more erratic climate," she said in opening remarks, warning of more storms, rising sea levels, droughts and famine.
