Many relics from ancient Egypt remain in foreign museums and Cairo is struggling to persuade other countries to send them back, like France which agreed to return a set of 3,000-year-old wall painting fragments.

"It is the Egyptian people's right to see works of art from their country's civilisation," said Abdel Halim Nureddin, a former head of Egypt's antiquities authority.

Egypt to cut ties with the LouvreEgyptian sources reported Wednesday that its antiquities department had severed ties with the Louvre Museum, because it had refused to return what the Egyptians say are stolen artifacts

The decision represents one of the most aggressive attempts yet by Egypt to reclaim relics from some of the world’s leading Egyptology collections.

bust of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti An iconic bust of Egypt's Queen Nefertiti has been moved to its new home in Berlin.
The fragile sculpture was transferred to Germany's newly-renovated Neues Museum "with extreme care" on Sunday (04.10.09).

It will go on display later this month in a dedicated display room.
