A prominent Egyptian opposition leader said on Wednesday he was
launching a campaign to block Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from passing on
his post at the helm of the most populous Arab country to his
politician son Gamal
Ayman Nour, who came a distant second to Mubarak in a 2005 presidential
vote before being jailed for over three years on forgery charges, said
he was launching the campaign alongside other opposition activists
including Islamists and liberals.

A group of unknown activists wrote
on the walls of a major highway that intersects 6th of October City
with Giza’s Mohandiseen neighborhood graffiti against the alleged
succession plans of the government.

Fears over the potentially devastating effects of a swine-flu pandemic
in the poverty stricken slums of Cairo have spurred Egypt to develop
its own vaccine against the H1N1 virus.
However, the vaccine will not be ready for production for another 18
months, according to Egyptian Minister of Health Hatem el-Gabali, so the
country intends to import drugs to inoculate school children and key
public workers.

Egyptian travel
agents and hoteliers expect further rate reductions this fall season as
European travel agents begin applying a new system whereby hotel rates
are set on a monthly basis as opposed to a previous fixed-rate system.
"Egypt
is facing fierce competition with other tourist destinations that have
reduced their rates due to the global financial crisis," said Magdy
el-Menawy, former board member of the Egyptian Chamber of Tourism.Tourism
