A senior official reported Sunday that Emirates Telecommunications Corp ETEL.AD (Etisalat) is eyeing acquisitions as it seeks to benefit from falling prices in a financial crisis, potentially using its $3 billion in cash
Like other Gulf Arab telecom firms, Etisalat has been snapping up assets worth billions of dollars in populous countries such as Egypt and Pakistan.

The median overnight interbank rate on the Egyptian pound rose to 11.7 percent on Thursday from 11.525 percent on Wednesday, with the market liquid and traders awaiting long-dated treasury bill auctions, traders said

Egyptian largest cement maker by market value, Suez Cement posted a 14 percent rise in nine-month profit to 913.4 million Egyptian pounds as sales within Egypt rose
The company did not give further details in a release to the Egyptian stock exchange. Its subsidiary Helwan Cement said its profit for the first nine months of the year rose 38 percent to 451.6 million pounds. Suez is in turn a subsidiary of Italcementi.

Telecom Egypt ETEL.CA said its third quarter profit jumped nearly 35 percent, helped by gains on its investment in mobile operator Vodafone Egypt and more mobile traffic on its network
Egypt's fixed-line monopoly also said it had agreed with Egypt's Orascom Telecom ORTE.CA to liquidate their joint venture in Algeria.
