Implementing commercial traffic between Italy and Egypt, especially for the fruit and vegetable sector. This is the objective of an agreement between the ports of Venice and Alexandria signed today at international transport conference, Ten-t, held in Naples with Italian Transport Minister, Altero Matteoli and his Egyptian counterpart, Lofti Mansour The agreement calls for a direct maritime transport line between the two ports in 2010 for goods and passengers, the creation of a free trade zone aiming to encourage trade, and the creation of port infrastructure to increase imports and exports between Italy and Egypt.

This will make the Port of Venice a point of arrival for goods destined for the Italian market and for all of central and eastern Europe.
