About Venice Film Festival
Venice International Film Festival The Venice Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world. Founded by Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata in 1932 as the "Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica", the festival has since taken place every year in late August or early September on the island of the Lido, Venice, Italy

Venice Film Festival awards
Golden Lion
The Golden Lion is the festival's highest award for best film.

Silver Lion
Silver Lions are an irregular award presented in some years as a "runners-up" prize to the Golden Lion. In addition, other Silver Lions are sometimes awarded for debut films, short films and direction.

Special Jury Prize
A Special Jury Prize is awarded to one or two films in most years.

Volpi Cups
The Volpi Cups are awarded to actors. Awards for best actor and best actress have been given since 1935. In the mid-1990s awards were also given to supporting actors and actresses, and in 1993 an award was given to the entire cast of Short Cuts

Golden Osellas
The Golden Osellas are awarded to directors, cinematographers, screenwriters, composers, and for outstanding technical contributions.

Young Cinema Award
The Young Cinema Award (Italian: Premio Arca Cinema Giovani) is a film award given at the Venice Film Festival. The motto of the award is "Spirit of time: a look to the present".The jury consists of one hundred 18-25 year olds from France, Canada, Poland, Hungary, and Italy.

2008 Venice International Film Festival
The 65th Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, was opened on August 27, 2008 by Burn After Reading, and closed on September 6, 2008. International competition jury, led by Wim Wenders, awarded Leone d'Oro to The Wrestler, directed by Darren Aronofsky.
77-year-old Italian film director Ermanno Olmi received a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

2009 Venice International Film Festival
The 2009 Venice Film Festival is 66th annual Venice Film Festival which will be held from September 2 to 12, 2009. Ang Lee will be this year's President of the Jury. The festival will be hosted by Moroccan actor Ilyass Derfouf.

66th Venice Film Festival Announces Line-up

The President of the Venice Biennale, Paolo Baratta, and the Director of the Cinema section Marco Müller, this morning announced the line-up for the 66th Venice International Film Festival that will run at Venice Lido from From September 2 to 12.

The line-up is divided into six sections in the official selection: Venezia 66, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, Controcampo Italiano, Corto Cortissimo and These Phantoms: Italian Cinema Rediscovered; and into two independent sections: International Critics' Week and Venice Days.
