Best bidder in wastewater project: Egypt OCI

Orascom Construction Industries (OCI)Egyptian largest listed builder Orascom Construction Industries said on Sunday its joint venture with Spanish Aqualia submitted the best financial bid for a Cairo wastewater treatment project

The value of the bid stood at $459 million, and the winning consortium would build and operate the plant for 20 years. The company said bids were still under evaluation, said Orascom Construction Industries .

Orascom Construction Industries added that the bid includes the value of engineering, procurement and construction of the plant, as well as operation and maintenance for the duration of the contract.

The project was tendered by Egyptian Housing Ministry as a public-private partnership, and the treatement plant would have a daily capacity of 250,000 cubic metres.

Orascom Construction Industries said it expected an official announcement soon.

Aqualia is the water division of Spanish construction firm FCC, and its joint venture with Orascom Construction Industries is called Orasqualia.

Orascom Construction Industries has said it would concentrate on fertilisers after selling its cement unit to French company Lafarge last year. It has fertiliser operations to Egypt, Nigeria and Algeria.

Shares in Orascom Construction Industries were 0.6 percent higher at 205 pounds at 0940 GMT.
