State urged to find partners for BPO project

IT experts are calling on the Kenyan Government to widen investor participation when building the planned Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Park as is the practice in other countries which have built technology parks such as India and Egypt

“Leading global organisations prefer to partner with banks, insurance companies, and investment groups to  develop offices and other facilities like call centres in BPO parks rather than do everything themselves in emerging markets.
“The proposed BPO park will thus generate multiple  business opportunities for Kenyan investors through joint-ventures with established global firms,” said Mr Peter Kimacia of ICTvillage.com.
The government allocated Sh900 million for building of the park, which it says will be useful for developing the BPO sector that is expected to create employment for up to 15,000 people by 2012.
