Egypt’s Prime Minister Essam Sharaf stressed that forming a new constitution will be a step of the utmost importance towards a “bright” future

In the opening session of Egypt’s Constitution Drafting Conference, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yehia El-Gamal, Sharaf said: “The outcome of the conference will help the founding commission in their responsibility to form the new constitution.

“The government will not interfere in discussions held in the conference, but rather will limit itself to providing the necessary support to facilitate it.

“Here our future begins. The efforts that will be exerted in the conference will be pivotal.”

Under the supervision of the Supreme Judicial Commission a referendum was conducted ‎‎on 19 March where over 14 million of the 18 million registered voters approved nine constitutional ‎‎amendments that will remain in effect with full ‎authority until the upcoming ‎presidential elections where a new constitution is expected to be drafted.
