Cairo giants resolve the rift over unpaid wages between star goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed and director of football Ibrahim Hassan as their LE1 million signing "Ganesh" signs on with the league leaders

“Things returned to normal in the team as we will solve problems over the players’ salary soon,” said Zamalek President Galal Ibrahim, adding that “Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed apologised to the coaching stuff and we all will do our best for the sake of our club.”

Earlier this week, the international keeper and eleven of Zamalek's players lodged a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association against the club, claiming that they haven’t received their monthly salaries.

The league leader’s coaching staff and the board of directors embarked upon a war of words, asserting that the players should be patient as they are aware that the club faces financial crisis.

Ibrahim hinted that Zamalek can always turn to its youth team, opening the door for the disgruntled players to leave.

The club’s director of football, Ibrahim Hassan, went as far as to undermine the stature and leadership of El-Sayed in front of his teammates by stripping him of the captaincy.

“I asked my teammates to be patient and to cancel the complaint as nothing happened,” the goalkeeper said after a reconciliation meeting with the club’s hierarchy.

Despite the club’s claims of financial hardship, the board managed to pay LE400,000 as an advance installment on the contract with goalkeeper Mahmoud Abdel-Rahim “Ganash”. The former Olympic Club keeper signed a three-season contract with the White Knights after joining in a LE1 million deal.

Zamalek sit at the top of the Egyptian league table with 32 points, three ahead of Ismaily.

They are set to meet Haras Al-Hodoud on Thursday after the competition was halted for more than two and a half months since the uprising on 25 January.
