Safa President Kirsten Nematandani has revealed that Bafana Bafana's crucial African Nations Cup Qualifier against Egypt on March 26 will take place at Ellis Park and not FNB Stadium

After acting CEO Pinky Lehoko revealed yesterday that the match against The Pharaohs would take place in Gauteng province, officials are understood to be putting the final touches on the deal to play at the venue of the 1995 Rugby World Cup venue.

But while Safa are preparing to make an announcement on Tuesday night or Wednesday, Nematandani mistakenly let the information slip because he believed the news was already public.

"The match will be taking place at Ellis Park," he tells KickOff.com.

"We had a press release showing when the match will be taking place. It was sent the day before yesterday I think, or maybe I was just sent a copy and it hasn't gone out."

Nematandani adds: "The FNB has been engaged in a number of issues, so we chose another facility that was available. The conditions there have not been very good and we had some issues regarding the changing rooms over the weekend so we didn't want to take a chance.

"We had to find somewhere suitable for the match and why shouldn't we choose Ellis Park?"

Attempts to get a response from Stadium Management South Africa – the company that runs FNB Stadium – came to nothing but with Ellis Park owned by the City of Johannesburg, negotiations were understood to be ongoing.

However, Safa's director of communications Morio Sanyane refused to confirm the deal had been struck.

"We are still finalising the contract - that's why we haven't made the announcement," said Safa's director of communications Morio Sanyane.

"We're expecting to make it today or at the latest tomorrow but it all depends on whether we can agree on the terms with the people we are negotiating with."
