Smart Villages Company said Tuesday that Egypt's Communications and Information Technology Minister Tarek Kamel witnessed the launch of the Global Entrepreneurship Program (GEP) initiated cooperatively between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the US Department of State

The launch was also witnessed by Mr. Steven R. Koltai, Senior Advisor for Global Entrepreneurship at the US Department of State, and Ms. Margaret Scobey, the American Ambassador to Egypt.

Moreover, American investors and entrepreneurs who work in the field of IT and its applications, US government officials, Egyptian businessmen, information and communication technology (ICT) leaders and a number of concerned civil society organizations took part in the event.

The program goes in line with the US initiative that aims to open a channel for dialogue with the Muslim World and the Middle East that the American President Barack Obama referred to in his speech at Cairo University back in June 2009.

On his part, Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif will meet Tuesday with a number of the GEP members at the Cabinet premises.

The GEP aims at motivating partners from governments, NGOs, universities, professional associations, institutions and enterprise companies in order to support the growing trend of establishing enterprises and social innovations in Egypt, especially in IT and its applications.
