Egyptian workers from Amonsito and Nubaria Engineering and Agricultural Automation Company were joined by demonstrators with physical disabilities Monday night in a sleep-in before the Egyptian parliament in downtown Cairo

The diverse group protested the government's failure to meet their various demands, and threatened an open sit-in until they get a response.

Demonstrators hoisted banners and chanted slogans demanding that their rights be respected. They also brought food and drinks in order to be able to continue their protest.

Mahrous Hamdi, an ex-technician at Amonsito, explained that he worked at the company for 18 years before it shut down. Since then, Hamdi says, him and his family became vulnerable, as he has five school-aged children and lives off LE250 every two or three months from the Social Solidarity fund.

A group of protesters with physical disabilities also staged a sit-in, saying they will continue until the government provides them with jobs and housing.

The demonstrations also included a group of law school graduates, protesting against the State Cases Authority for its failure to implement a legal ruling that grants the protesters the right to work in the authority.
