Egypt's Electricity and Energy Minister
Egyptian Electricity and Energy Minister and temporarily Transport Minister Hassan Younis accepted resignation of Egypt's Railway Authority (ERA) Chairman Eng. Mahmoud Sami Ahmed

On Wednesday, Younis also issued a decision for Eng. Mustafa Qenawy to set as a Chairman of the Egyptian Railway Authority.

Egypt's Transport Minister Mohamed Lotfi Mansour resigned on Tuesday over a train crash south of Cairo which killed 18 people on Saturday

Despite Egypt's transport Minister stressed that he will not step down from his position.

Mansour told "Al-Beit Beitak" daily talk show on Sunday that he does not intend to resign.

"I am responsible for the transportation system in Egypt and I will not step down from my position and relinquish my responsibility," he said.

The accident was because of "human error" and is not the responsibility of the entire transport system, added Mansour.

Notable, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has accepted the resignation of Transport Minister Mohamed Mansour .. in which he bears the responsibility over the crash.

For his part, Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif confirmed Mansour's resignation saying that "I have just been informed that the president has accepted the resignation.

Younis held a meeting Wednesday morning with the President of the Railway Authority to discuss the current situation of the Railway Authority, future development plans and to check on progress of work, stressing that Egypt's Railway Authority is considered as one of the very important and vital facilities in Egypt.

The minister asked the new chairman to carry out necessary measures to avoid any incidents in the future and activating the safety and security procedures and put as a priority for the Railway Authority to ensure the safety of citizens.
