The team has struggled in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, forcing sports officials to think of renewing the team for future competitions.

Rwanda’s national football team, the Amavubi Stars, will undergo a major overhaul after their final 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifier against Zambia next month.

This was revealed by the Minister of Sports and Culture (Minispoc) Joseph Habineza after the team's alleged failure to show the required level of commitment and professionalism.

"The time for analysis has now come and I have to admit that it's time to bring in new blood in the team. We will of course keep some of the young players who have gained good experience during the World Cup qualifying campaign," the minister was quoted in The New Times.

"We need to carry out a thorough renewal of the squad in terms of professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm."

"We will of course maintain some of the young players who have gained experience during the World Cup qualifying campaign."

At some point during the qualifying campaign, some players hinted on a series of dressing room disputes with rumours of a split in the coaching department.

Despite managing a single point from a possible 15, Amavubi still have a fighting chance of reaching next year's African Nations Cup in Angola. Zambia currently have a -3 goal difference while Rwanda's stands at -7 as they prepare to face off in the final matchday.

While Algeria and African champions Egypt have already qualified for CAN, there is still everything to play for as they chase for that sole World Cup slot.

Egypt, on ten points, are three points adrift of Algeria and have to beat the latter by a three-goal difference to secure their ticket to South Africa.
