An official from Technological Cooperation Secretariat of IRI Presidential Office Amir Naderi and Syrian Transportations Minister Yarab Badr negotiated about bilateral aviation cooperation

During the meeting on Wednesday, Naderi announced Iran's readiness for transfer of experience in technological and engineering aviation fields, as well as the establishment of a center for light plane pilot training and an aviation research center, a workshop for construction of light and small plane manufacturing, plane maintenance and repair shops, and expansion of Syrian airports' runways.

Badr was quoted by the Islamic republic news agency as saying, "The brad presence of Iranian firms at Syria's first International Aviation Technology Exhibition paves the way for bilateral aviation cooperation that is a new horizon in the history of the two countries broad level relations, particularly keeping in mind the advancement of the aviation industries in Iran in recent years."

He expressed emphatic hope that during the ongoing visit of the Iranian official the initial letter of agreement for cooperation and would be singed and the ground would be pave for taking advantage of Iran's experience and technical know-how in aviation field based on a definite time table so that tangible results would be achieved on such bases.

According to Badr, such cooperation could be conducted between the Iranian side and such Syrian state firms as the Syrian Civil Aviation Institute, the Syrian Arabic Republic Aviation Company and the Syrian private sector firms, particularly more so, since Syria is planning to privatize its internal transportation sector by the end of the year 2009.

Syria's first International Aviation Technology Exhibition was kicked off on Monday evening featuring dozens of aviation firms from many countries, particularly the regional ones, including many Iranian firms, at Damascus International Fairs Complex.

75 firms from 12 countries, namely Syria, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Turkey, Kuwait, Germany, and Hungry are participating at the three-day exhibition.

Forty Iranian state and private sector firms are participating actively at the exhibition, more than those participating from any other single country, hoping to gain a good share of the two countries aviation cooperation relying on the two countries' excellent ties.
