An Egyptian security official announced that the Rafah border with the Gaza Strip was closed late Monday after 2,144 Palestinian pilgrims were enabled to cross into Egypt on their way to Saudi Arabia "The border has remained open for three days to allow the passage of Palestinian pilgrims leaving for Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah (Lesser Pilgrimage) in Mecca and Medina during Ramadan, which starts next Saturday," according to Middle East News Agency, the official said Since Saturday, about 2,144 Palestinians have crossed into Egypt through Rafah on their way to Mecca and Medina, he said.The Rafah crossing will open for two days by the end of Ramadan, he added.
