Egypt's Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abul Gheit appealed on Monday for the establishment of a new international order, which should be founded upon plurality and the democratization of international relations

In the new world order, "decisions are made by consensus and not governed by monopoly," Abul Gheit said at the ministerial meeting of the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit held in this Egyptian Red Sea resort city.

"All rights and responsibilities are respected and are equal and individuals are not judged by their poverty or wealth nor are nations by their size or military and economic capabilities nor are peoples by their color or religion" in the new order, said Abul Gheit, who is chairman of the two-day ministerial meeting starting on Monday.

In the new order, success should be judged by its ability to ensure justice and safeguard the dignity of humankind, he added.

Abul Gheit said "We thus pledge to work throughout the duration of our chairmanship of the NAM summit to restore confidence in the multilateral international order, atop of which lies the United Nations system and in particular the general assembly."

The 15th NAM summit is slated for July 15 and 16 in this city with the theme of "International Solidarity for Peace and Development."

Founded in September 1961, NAM now groups 118 member states, 16observer countries and 9 observer organizations.

The movement, which represents nearly two-thirds of UN member countries and comprises 55 percent of the world population, focuses on striving for interests of developing countries all over the world.
