Israeli officials were convening on Sunday morning to discuss the
Egyptian draft for a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas,
according to Israeli Jerusalem post It said that on Sunday morning, Ehud Olmert the Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, Israel’s Defense Minister and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni were convening to discuss the Egyptian draft for a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas Egypt’s draft would reportedly include in a later stage the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit, who has been held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip for over two years, it added. Olmert toned down expectations early on in the meeting, saying media outlets were "exaggerated in their assessment of progress of the Schalit deal" A plethora of unconfirmed media reports earlier Sunday hinted that Schalit would be released in the second stage of a deal with Hamas in exchange for the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, some convicted killers among them and including Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti. According to Army Radio, Binyamin Ben Eliezer, Labor MK said that "we are closer than we ever were" to getting the captive soldier released.
