Hosni MubarakEgyptian President Hosni Mubarak has held discussions on several African issues with head of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Gertrude Mongella in the capital Cairo

The meeting, held Monday at the presidential Palace, was attended by Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and also dealt with PAP’s role in achieving African objectives and interests, peace, security and development in the African continent.

Discussions also touched upon PAP’s activities in boosting inter-African cooperation as well as cooperation between PAP and the Egyptian parliament.

Mongella is in Cairo to participate in the third international conference of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights which opened on Monday in Cairo.

Egypt renewed its invitation to advance the principles, values, defense of human rights issues and the spreading the culture and education of human rights.

The conference coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.

Speakers at the opening session stressed that the battle for human rights still needed momentum and that despite passage of 60 years on the Declaration, the world still needs to make utmost efforts to promote human rights.
