Egypt to sign Zimbabwean power sharing agreement PDF Print E-mail

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Egypt’s FM welcomed Monday the successful process of national reconciliation in Zimbabwe after the signing of an agreement in Harare for the formation of a power sharing deal after arduous negotiations
Aboul Gheit told reporters in Cairo on Monday that the positive effect of the reconciliation process would help achieve security and stability in Zimbabwe in particular and Southern Africa in general.

Aboul Gheit expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the great efforts of African mediation, which led to a breakthrough and an eventual agreement.
He said Egypt was ready to provide all assistance to Zimbabwe to help it achieve stability and economic development.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Aboul Gheit held talks on Monday in Cairo with a visiting delegation from the British Parliament to discuss the situation in Sudan, especially the crisis in Darfur.
A spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry Hossam Zaki told reporters that Aboul Gheit told the British delegation that under-development was one of the underlying causes of tension in Darfur.
According to the spokesman, Foreign Minister Aboul Gheit affirmed during the discussions with the parliamentarians that the settlement of the Darfur crisis needed understanding the seriousness of the situation and that the international community should refrain from igniting the situation through outside interference.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the need for concerted regional and international efforts to reach a solution satisfactory to the majority of Sudanese people as well as help preserve the unity of Sudan
For her part, assistant of Egyptian Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Mona Omar held a meeting on Monday in Cairo with the ambassadors of the African Union member states accredited to Egypt to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and African countries and ways to deepen and expand in various fields and issues of interest to Africa.
After the meeting, she said that she reviewed with the diplomats the activities planned during the coming period. She said they expressed special attention on the need for intensive visits to cities and industrial zones and Egyptian ports to get acquainted with the Egyptian administration and expertise in these areas for the benefit of their countries, "in addition to enhancing cooperation between Egypt and their countries in the fields of industry, investment and trade.
Ambassador Mona Omar said the two sides agreed to host some senior Egyptian businessmen periodically to participate in some of these meetings to inform the African diplomats about opportunities for cooperation with their countries in the fields of economy, trade, investment and joint projects that will achieve common benefit.
