The sit-in staged by Cairo University students who were expelled form the hostel of university turned into a hunger strike, which began on Monday afternoon and continued until midnight yesterdayAbout 150 students went on hunger strike after overrunning the university hostel with a group of sympathizing students and marching around the hostel to protest their expulsion Security forces did not attempt to force the students to abandon control of the main gate of the hostel throughout the duration of the hunger strike, and instead organized the movement of students in and out of the hostel from an adjacent door Striking students used the entrance to hang their clothes and light up a kerosene stove in an expression of the state of homelessness they found themselves in after the university decided to expel them form the hostel without giving any reasonable justification A number of students residing in the hostel expressed their sympathy with the striking students by providing them with blankets and bed sheets that striking students used during their night strike The students ended their 10-hour strike after University President Dr. Ali Abdel Rahman met a delegation representing them and pledged to resolve their problem within a week and to gradually re-accommodate them back in the hostel in the coming days
