Abul Gheit condemns attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon Print E-mail
Monday, 25 June 2007
Ahmed Abul Gheit the Foreign Minister of Egypt announced his condemnation towards the attack which is targeting a patrol of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
At least five Spanish peacekeepers are killed and wounded five others in the attack.
He is underlining the importance of maintaining control over the situation there
and he added in his announcement that no party would benefit from attacking UNIFIL troops which helps maintain security in southern Lebanon"
Notable, he Abul Gheit urged UNIFIL troops to continue the mission in southern Lebanon to avoid a flare-up of fighting.
Mr. Abul Gheit is offering his condolences to the family of the victims.
The roadside bomb hit a Spanish patrol vehicle of the UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, killing five Spanish peacekeepers and wounding five others on Sunday.
The UNIFIL now has 13,000-strong troops in Lebanon, which has been fulfilling a peacekeeping task since last summer's Israel Hezbollah conflict.
Lebanon's south is riddled with landmines, laid by both Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah militants.
